"I have been hosting since 2003 and have had none of the issues that others have professed to have. I have contacted customers support a couple times and as with most support places it could be better, but all my problems were resolved in a timely manor. In response to one of the links below, I would not recommend using 1and1 for domain collecting if you plan on only holding domains for less than a few months. If you have over 100 domains you might be better served with a company that specifically deals with domains. If however you want a good experience with a shared hosting plan and you have a couple domains that you want to keep around for awhile you can't beat the price and the uptime has been great (my sites have not been down). Thanks 1and1 for hosting my personal and company websites for over 5 years."

"1and1.co.uk have been my provider for 15 years - first as a basic package; then as a business package and later with a virtual Windows server. I had a few odd problems with the virtual server when it was a new service. Otherwise the control panel has been fabulous; great (and useless) features have been added and my pop/imap email accounts have run faultlessly. Tech support, have always delivered a solution - even the overseas people. I have high expectations like many professionals and I have yet to find a reason to knock this host."

"My six sites have never been down cause of my host. I've been hacked several times in the last year and was very thankful for the backups provided free by 1&1. And the price is GREAT at 3.99 per month for all the storage, email addresses and traffic I need. I see no reason to go anywhere else."

"I have been with them for more than 5 years. First my webdevelopers complain about the time it takes to respond to simple questions and their slow in upgrade. The major problem I noticed in the last 12 months is the complete breakdown of technical support. If you are not a serious technical guy, this is not a hosting company to go for. Price may be great, but you will pay for it in phone calls and sitting down for 24hours waiting for technical support. Not having a chat messaging system makes them look ancient."

"I may have rated 1and1.com here before, but I just learned something new and stupid about them that potential victims should know. When you want to transfer a domain away from 1and1.com, they force you to unlock the domain. Other domain registrars will email you to confirm the transfer is legit. 1and1.com freely tells you that if you unlock your domain, they will transfer it to anyone who asks without checking with the owner. This represents a completely unnecessary risk of loss of your domain. Every other registrar can transfer a domain without completely giving up on security. This is another in a long list of grievances including a pattern of outright fraud. Friends don't let friends buy from 1and1.com"

"I've had no problems as far as downtime, but like others have found their customer service and billing to be beyond horrible. Consistently overbilled, and suspect this is intentional. If you don't thoroughly check your invoices they take advantage. When you have an issue their response is to give you the link to their "cancel" page, which I'm now going to take advantage of (long overdue). Worse yet, I'm an affiliate and they don't pay your commissions and don't respond when you ask about it. Worse yet, I've got clients there that I also have to move. Stay FAR, FAR away from 1and1."
