"Regarding reliability, there was a time when servers were going down on a regular basis. The issue that caused the downtimes were already fixed. The uptime is really good now, back to normal. As to support, it's superb. Just shoot them an email and expect a reply in ten minutes (average time based on my experience). Very friendly and professional tech staff. Offers features seen in other hosting companies. What sets A Small Orange apart is that they don't oversell servers and lets you use up all resources included in the package. Pricing is very competitive. They offer a good array of plans. :P"

"I have been with ASO for over 3 years and have two accounts with them, ASO was the first the 1st big web host that I tried and I never had to look any further, they have been providing excellent service in all aspects. The support has been very helpful and responsive, whenever I have dropped any mail to help@asmallorange.com I have got a response within 30 minutes, they also helped my out of the way by manually moving a sub-domain from one account to other. Price is great as compared to the features the are offering , the plans are only limited in terms of bandwidth and disk space, all other features like ad-on domains, sql db’s etc are unlimited, they also give you shell access on their cheap shared hosting plans. Price of extra bandwidth and disk space is also very reasonable. I would strongly suggest ASO as a solid and economical host."

"I've been with ASO for quite a while now and I've had no issues. The odd server reboot with outages of no more than a few minutes. Customer (Tech) support is great. They are really responsive. Tickets are picked up in minutes and actioned really quickly. They've even assisted with config stuff that's outside the normal hosting, and updated software versions etc just for asking. SSH access is really useful for me. The only things I'd like are more disk space and full DNS control. I could pay more for these, but don't need the other features that come with those packages. I know several other people on ASO who are really pleased with the service too, and I've just signed up another account for someone too."

Negative Review

"Six months ago I would have given these people rave reviews. Not now. My site was hacked and some phishing software was uploaded. The resulted in my site twice been taken offline by the ASO until the fishing issue was resolved. I understand this needed to happen. What happened next was unforgivable. Without any report of any phishing going on at the time they did it, SAO management decided to take my site offline until I checked -- at their request -- some files that were also uploaded at the time some of the phishing filed were also uploaded. The did this after I left for work. Bu the time I got back and checked and uploaded newer fresh versions of these files, it was late evening. I informed the ASO support desk that "management" would have to review these changes. This was on Friday evening. My site will be down the entire weekend. At this point, they stopped responding to my emails asking for help. What annoys me the most is the way they treated me -- a customer for years -- like I was a criminal. I would never recommend this company to anyone."

"This company once had a great name - reliable, great support and a great price. This hasn't been true for the last year and it's only getting worse. The reliability is the main problem, with our site / email being down almost every day for an hour or more at a time. Having a look around, this seems to be the trend for their customer complaints and the support offered provides no light at the end of the tunnel. This company/host has lost it and as soon as possible I'll be finding an alternate one (we're currently locked into a year with their prepaid no refunds 'deal')."

"During my first experiences with A Small Orange, I was completely pleased. My website was always up, and if there was ever a problem, the support was quick to fix it. These days, my website goes down every two days, especially during the peak hours, which means I am losing money. The support does not offer any solutions anymore, and they always beat around the bush. When the server goes back up, it is only partially up, and my websites cannot connect to their databases. And since I paid for the full year, I cannot even get any of my money back. But, I don't even care, I signed up with another host. Even though I lost money for the remaining months on the hosting, I will make it up with the uptime with my new host. "
