"We've been with Bluehost for years, no issues, best host, extremely reliable, great uptime, competitive pricing with many features and incredible and friendly support. They've been around a long time and they've earned their stellar reputation!! "
"I have used Bluehost for over five years now. Only one time I had an issue, and they fixed it extremely fast, and was very concerned. I would recommend Blue Host highly."
"I moved my forum database (not the domain) from another hosting site about 2 or more years ago because the backup utilities at the other hosting site were terrible and unreliable. Bluehost uses a Linux server and my backups are so simple now --- and they (Bluehost) also do their own site-by-site backups regularly for easy restore. I would have left it that way (My main dot-com still at the other site and having it re-directed to the forum at Bluehost). But the other company (don't know if I can name it here so I'll leave it out) then began to go south -- servive interriptions, very long tech support call waiting, shutting down sites without warning for Malware THEY should have blocked --- and becoming totally non-responsive. They lefy me no choice -- so with the help of a Bluehost technicician, I have begun moving all of my domains (DNS) to Bluehost and will also begin the process of switching all the registrations to them as well. I fgeel bad for Netfirms -- they were so fantastic for the first 6 years I used them -- but no lonher. I also think they have been "taken over" and that may explain the change? Not sure. But I AM sure that right now Bluehost has been wonderful and the tecj wait time is NOT 45 minutes -- more like 5-10. I strongly recommend them."
"I have had my business website and email with BlueHost for 6+ months and they have had NUMEROUS outages for 12+ hours at a time. This week it's been down twice already - so I have no access to my email and my website says it's unavailable when people try to access it. No matter how cheap it is - if it doesn't stay up online it's not worth it! When I contacted customer service they basically just sent me something back out of a textbook, and were less than helpful."
"My experience with signing up with Bluehost has been nothing short of a nightmare. They have a great plan on offer on the surface, but look under the hood and you will soon find some serious short comings with what they are really offering. Unfortunately for the unsuspecting you don’t find this out until you sign up and they have you by the short and curlies. For example they offer six (6) domains under one account. Well far from it, what you really get is one (1) domain and five (5) limited domains. Fixed IP’s can only be provided on the main domain and the functionality through the control panel is very limited. Their support is typically reasonable for basic things, but wait until you strike a real problem that actual requires someone to think for more than 10 seconds on it. My experience has been they will fob you off until the cows come home and then some. Buy beware!"
"blue host sucks! one breakin to their software and they took down 5 of my websites. They violated their own 3 strike policy. They took them down without warning. cant even ftp from them. they are ok until there is a problem and then they are totally unreasonable. I was a good customer for a long time before that, never missed a payment date, never had any problems. Regardless of what they say once someone broke into my account they were totally unreasonable."
For all but the most insanely high-traffic apps, the best Ruby on Rails hosting solution these days is a combination of Amazon Web Services, Heroku, and a shared host like DreamHost.
This is because you should serve all your static assets from CloudFront and use SES for outgoing email. Your application layer should sit on Heroku (until it becomes crazy expensive), and your inbound email server, domain redirects, and miscellaneous stuff should be on a shared host.
